Yungang Grottoes, with 252 holes and 51,000 Buddhist statues are the traditional showstoppers of Chinese Buddhist workmanship in the fifth and sixth hundreds of years. The entire cavern complex is glorious with sensitive carvings. It stretches out around 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) in length from east to west. The statues are valuable and distinctive, speaking to the advancement of craftsmanship, building design, music and religion at the time of development.
